Pashinyan Plans to March to Tsitsernakaberd on April 24, Presenting it as a Confidence March: Heriknaz Tigranyan
The newspaper ‘Hraparak’ reports: “The government is compelled to rectify the consequences of its illiteracy. Heriknaz Tigranyan, a member of parliament from the 'My Step' faction, has introduced a draft amendment suggesting to ‘edit’ the law on ‘Holidays and Memorial Days’. In 2019, parliament decided to designate the last Saturday of April as Citizens' Day. This year, it coincides with the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide on April 24, which the authorities had not anticipated.
The law stated only that if May 1 falls on a Saturday, Citizens' Day is celebrated on the last Sunday of April, meaning April 25 this year. Tigranyan is now proposing that if Citizens' Day coincides with any holiday or memorial day, it should be celebrated on the Sunday following that Saturday. Regarding the celebratory events, our sources from the government indicate that no program has been developed so far, and it is possible that this year they will not officially mark that day as a holiday.
Instead, according to reports, Nikol Pashinyan is preparing to march with his political team to the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex on April 24, declaring it in advance for the public to join him, presenting it as a confidence march.”
