Edgar Ghazaryan: Gagik Jhangiryan Cannot Be a Member of the Supreme Judicial Council Due to Legislative Incompatibilities
The former head of the Constitutional Court staff, Edgar Ghazaryan, made a post on his Facebook page discussing the fact that Gagik Jhangiryan, elected by the National Assembly as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), could not hold that position also because he does not possess an academic degree.
The post is presented below:
“There is no mention of Gagik Jhangiryan, his academic degree, scientific topic, etc., on the official website of the Higher Attestation Commission in the section related to 'Individuals Associated with the Awarding of Academic Degrees in the Republic of Armenia.' He was elected as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council by the seventh convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia as a legal scholar, but it turns out that he does not have an academic degree, therefore he cannot be considered a scholar.
Thus, Gagik Jhangiryan cannot be a member of the Supreme Judicial Council not only due to having exceeded the age of 65 but also due to other legislative incompatibilities. However, today he is not only a member of the SJC but also, as the oldest judge by age, has temporarily assumed the duties of the SJC president.”
