President of the Supreme Judicial Council R. Vardazaryan's Powers Suspended: G. Jhangiryan to Assume Duties
The press and public relations service of the Supreme Judicial Council has issued a statement announcing that on April 15, 2021, in a closed-door session, the Supreme Judicial Council decided to suspend the powers of Ruben Vardazaryan, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and judge of the first instance general jurisdiction court of Yerevan, based on the notification from the Prosecutor General about criminal proceedings against him concerning the execution of his powers.
Guided by point 7 of article 86 and parts 1 and 1.1 of article 165 of the constitutional law 'Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia,' the council has concluded to suspend Vardazaryan's powers as a judge and as the president of the Council until the completion of the proceedings in the criminal case against him.
According to part 13 of article 84 of the 'Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia,' the responsibilities of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council will be carried out by the oldest member of the Council, scientist-member Gagik Jhangiryan.
