Government Revokes Military Service Exemption for Three Athletes

The government has revoked the military service exemption granted to Lyova Hovhannes Gevorgyan and Menua Artyom Yaribekyan, who are not considered members of the Armenian freestyle wrestling national team, as well as Hayk Aristakes Babayan, who is not recognized as a member of the Armenian shooting national team. According to Armenpress, this decision was made during a cabinet session.

The justification states, "The request for the revocation of the military service exemption for Lyova Hovhannes Gevorgyan and Menua Artyom Yaribekyan, who are not considered members of the Armenian freestyle wrestling national team, was submitted by the 'Armenian Wrestling Federation' non-governmental organization in a letter dated March 3, 2021. Similarly, the request for Hayk Aristakes Babayan, who is not recognized as a member of the Armenian shooting national team, was submitted by the 'Armenian Shooting Federation' non-governmental organization in a letter dated March 9, 2021."

Consequently, it became necessary to amend the government's February 4, 2021, decision regarding the military service exemption for a number of citizens with significant achievements in sports, nullifying points 5, 6, and 9 of the decision's annex.
