USA Allocates $1 Million to Support COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts in Armenia

The United States government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is providing an additional $1,000,000 to bolster the Armenian government's efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the total funding provided by USAID for COVID-19 response in Armenia now exceeds $11 million.

This funding includes emergency resources to meet urgent health needs, as well as to mitigate secondary and tertiary impacts of the pandemic on democratic development and economic growth.

USAID is earmarking these financial resources to UNICEF to assist with the implementation and effective rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations in Armenia, in line with the National Vaccination Strategy and Vaccines Distribution Plan.

The U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, Lynne Tracy, stated: “Throughout the pandemic, the United States has worked alongside Armenia to combat COVID-19. With this new support, we will continue to work together to overcome COVID-19 and prepare for future public health threats.”

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the United States has closely cooperated with Armenia to preserve public health and strengthen the response to COVID-19. This collaboration includes funding to enhance laboratory capacities and manage severe cases, providing essential equipment, supporting vulnerable households and children, promoting the Armenian government’s crisis communication, enhancing emergency preparedness and response, and boosting resilience for small businesses, civil society, and media through grant provision.

The U.S. continues to demonstrate global leadership in international health and humanitarian support in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The foundation of this effort is built upon more than $140 billion in assistance from the U.S. government to global health programs and the development of local healthcare system capabilities since 2001.
