That law does not strengthen the independence of judges and courts: Ruben Vardazaryan

There is nothing in the draft law regarding taking a case from one judge and transferring it to another; this is just circulating at the level of rumors. Ruben Vardazaryan, the President of the Judicial Council, stated this in an interview with NEWS.am, referring to the package of draft laws on amendments and additions to the 'Judicial Code' adopted by the parliament on March 19.

'In the draft law, or the law that has already been adopted by the National Assembly, there is no such provision regarding taking a case and giving it to another judge. It was in the draft, but it has been removed. The National Assembly did not adopt such a law,' he said.

When asked by a journalist whether he approves of the adopted law, the President of the Judicial Council replied that he had already expressed his critical opinion. 'I believe that this law does not strengthen the independence of judges and courts,' he said.
