The Armenian Authorities and Turkey Are Following the Turkish Scenario: Suren Sargsyan
In recent days, the future of Armenian-Turkish relations has been actively discussed. This issue is a global challenge for independent Armenia, which all previous leaders have faced, wrote international expert Suren Sargsyan on Facebook.
“It must be clearly understood that Armenian-Turkish relations have two fundamental principles for their development:
1. Normalization of relations
2. Reconciliation
These are two essentially different principles. In brief, the first is beneficial for us, while the second is advantageous for the Turkish side. The concept of normalization of relations (without preconditions) has generally been supported by three former presidents of Armenia, who have worked in that direction.
Reconciliation means forgetting the past and starting everything from a 'clean slate.' This is the Turkish agenda, which implies that we must forget the Genocide, remove the international recognition of the Genocide from our foreign policy agenda, and start making 'friendship.' At the same time, it creates a divide between Armenia and the diaspora.
Now it is clear, isn't it, why the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff is calling for the rectification of relations, Makunts is being appointed as Ambassador in Washington, and the Prime Minister declares that there should be no enemies? This is the entire logic.
In other words, the Armenian authorities and Turkey are following the Turkish scenario; all of this is happening in anticipation of April 24, when the main international player, the United States, is unprecedentedly close to recognizing the fact.
Unpopular authorities, if you wanted to have an Armenian-Turkish process, you should have started three years ago. If you want to have it now, start from April 25, if your agenda is not of Turkish origin.”
