Arevik Khachatryan: Prosecutor’s Office Sends Judge’s Request Regarding Onik Gasparyan to Criminal Police

The Office of the General Prosecutor of Armenia has received a request from Administrative Court Judge Mher Petrosyan directed to the Supreme Judicial Council, said Arevik Khachatryan, head of the public relations department of the Prosecutor's Office, to Aysor.am.

Khachatryan noted that the request has been forwarded to the Criminal Police.

It is noteworthy that on March 25, the Supreme Judicial Council received a request from Administrative Court Judge Mher Petrosyan, following which an immediate discussion was organized by the Council.

After the discussion, guided by Article 89, Part 1, Point 18 of the Constitutional Law on the Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia, the Supreme Judicial Council sent a copy of Judge Mher Petrosyan's request addressed to it to the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia for necessary measures to be taken regarding the issues raised in the request.

Judge Mher Petrosyan is presiding over the case of the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Onik Gasparyan. The judge had approached the Supreme Judicial Council, stating that his life was under threat.

It was previously reported that staff from the National Security Service had visited Mher Petrosyan and attempted to enter the judge’s office.

It is also important to recall that the Administrative Court of Armenia, under the presidency of Judge Mher Petrosyan, granted a petition by Gasparyan's lawyer for a stay of proceedings, which sought to halt Gasparyan's dismissal until a final judicial decision was reached in the case.
