New Changes: Will Drivers Performing International Transport Agree to the Requirements?

«Jrakan» newspaper has learned that the Government of Armenia has presented a new legislative initiative that will be discussed in the National Assembly. It is proposed to amend the Law on Automobile Transport, which states that vehicles performing international transport must be equipped with a digital tachograph.

Furthermore, it is planned to set regulations on the rest and working hours of drivers, and to implement the digital tachograph system in vehicles engaged in passenger and freight transport. Notably, the daily driving time should not exceed 9 hours. The daily driving hours can extend up to 10 hours, but no more than twice a week.

The average weekly driving period cannot exceed 48 hours, and the maximum driving time for the week can be extended up to 56 hours. Within each 24-hour period, a driver must have at least 11 consecutive hours of daily rest, which can be reduced to at least 9 consecutive hours, but not more than three times a week.

Will drivers agree to these requirements? Time will tell. Meanwhile, it has been reported that drivers sometimes spend sleepless nights at the wheel in an effort to earn money.
