What to Expect from the Azerbaijani Control of Internet Traffic Supplied to Armenia: Insights from an Expert
The Georgian press reported yesterday that Azerbaijani businessman Nasib Hasanov has purchased a "residual" 51% share of the company Caucasus Online. It is noteworthy that the Azerbaijani entrepreneur acquired 49% of the company back in 2020.
Currently, this Georgian company provides 85% of Armenia's internet traffic, 50% of Azerbaijan's internet traffic, and 55% of Georgia's traffic.
Clearly, this adds another layer to our security issues in the post-war period. Regarding what specifically to expect from this transaction, information security expert Samvel Martirosyan elaborated in an interview with 168.am:
"Since they are our main suppliers, theoretically and, I believe, practically, they hold the key to potentially disrupting our internet connections. Another alternative is that it serves as a platform for hyper-aggressions against us, and the third is data collection regarding Armenians' internet visits."
