Public Oversight Institute Proposed for Liquid Fuel and Compressed Gas Sales Points

The National Assembly is discussing a draft amendment to the Law on Trade and Services of the Republic of Armenia in its second reading. The Deputy Minister of Economy, Varos Simonyan, announced that it has been proposed to require sellers at retail points of liquid fuels and compressed natural or liquefied petroleum or hydrocarbon gases to place information on the fuel name and intended purpose on the fuel dispensing equipment.

Another proposed amendment is the establishment of a public oversight institute. "In particular, the seller at retail points of liquid fuel is required to have a calibrated container, and sales of liquid fuel must be conducted through that container at the request of the consumer. The requirements for calibrated containers at retail points of liquid fuel, as well as the procedures for their installation and use, are to be approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia," noted the deputy minister, emphasizing that this will enable consumers to ensure they receive fuel in accordance with the specified volume and that they are not being deceived.

In cases of violations, appropriate measures of accountability will be applied, increasing the amount of established fines.
