NATO Warships Confirmed in the Black Sea
Russian military personnel are observing how warships from NATO countries continue to enter the Black Sea, reports RIA Novosti. On Friday, another Spanish frigate, the Cristobal Colon, entered the waters. Earlier in January, two American aircraft carriers appeared in the Black Sea. The alliance explained this by the 'military buildup' of Russia.
In response, Moscow conducted exercises that included naval combat. Russia has repeatedly stated that the presence of military personnel from different countries does not contribute to the stability of the region.
According to the Montreux Convention signed in 1936, warships from non-Black Sea states can remain in the Black Sea for up to three weeks. The document stipulates that up to nine ships with a total displacement of 30,000 tons can be present in the waters at the same time.
