VIDEO: The State Revenue Committee Reveals Largest Drug Trafficking Case Through Armenia in Last 7 Years

Officials from the State Revenue Committee's Anti-Smuggling Department have uncovered an exceptional case of drug trafficking. During customs oversight at one of the customs warehouses in Yerevan, a shipment declared as yeast was found to contain a particularly large batch of heroin—33 boxes totaling approximately 365 kilograms. The market value of this heroin is estimated to be around 45 million USD.

This incident marks the largest drug-related seizure by law enforcement agencies in Armenia since 2014, and it is unprecedented in the entire region. The heroin, concealed as yeast, was intended to be transported from the Islamic Republic of Iran through Armenia to Western Europe.

The criminal scheme was revealed through extensive and multi-faceted analytical work and comprehensive operational and investigative measures. The K9 units and service dogs from the State Revenue Committee's forensic center also played a critical role in uncovering this major case.

During the operational and investigative activities, the personnel of the Armenian Police and the National Security Service actively participated as well. A criminal case has been initiated at the State Revenue Committee's Investigation Department under Articles 267.1 and 266 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Six individuals of various nationalities have been arrested. The extensive operational and investigative measures continue with the aim of identifying other possible individuals involved in the case.

The Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee urges citizens to refrain from engaging in criminal schemes for drug transportation, warning that the department is continuously combating international illegal drug trafficking, always staying one step ahead of offenders.
