Possible Provocations During Today's Planned Rally, Police Warn

The Armenian police have received information that there may be provocations during the rally scheduled for March 3 at 16:00. This information was reported by the police press service.

“We call for mass events to be held exclusively within the framework of the law, to refrain from illegal actions, and not to fall for provocations. We urge citizens to respect the law and to uphold legal requirements and rules of coexistence when exercising their rights,” the statement reads.

The police assure that they will take all measures within the powers conferred upon them by law to ensure public order and maintain public safety.

It is noteworthy that the internal political situation in Armenia escalated after the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on February 25, stating that the political leadership was leading the state towards a dangerous threshold. This came after the Prime Minister dismissed the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Tiran Khachatryan.

In response, Nikol Pashinyan announced an attempted military coup and called on citizens to gather in Republic Square to “defend the revolution.” He also mentioned that he signed the document for the dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff, Onik Gasparyan, which, however, was not signed by the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, and was returned on February 27. On the same day, the Prime Minister sent the proposal again to the President.

The General Staff issued a new statement on March 1, reiterating its assessments of the current situation and emphasizing that, regardless of attempts to draw the Armed Forces into political processes, they remain steadfast, measured, and resolute.
