Certain Employees of the State Revenue Committee Allowed to Carry Combat Weapons

The National Assembly of Armenia has adopted the draft law on amendments to the Law of the Republic of Armenia on Weapons in the second reading and in full. The government-sponsored draft received 91 votes in favor, 6 against, and 21 abstentions.

The development of the amendments to the Law on Weapons is motivated by the necessity to provide the State Revenue Committee of Armenia with combat weapons intended for addressing operational and service-related tasks. The objectives of operational and intelligence activities include, among others, the disruption and detection of smuggling and the illegal transportation of vehicles across the customs border of the Republic of Armenia.

With the adoption of this draft, the State Revenue Committee of Armenia will be allocated combat weapons. The list of employees authorized to carry weapons and the types of weapons will be determined by a decision of the Government of Armenia.
