Armenian Parliament Approves Bill: What Day Will the First Sunday of October Be Celebrated?

Today, the National Assembly of Armenia approved the bill on amendments to the law on "Holidays and Commemorative Days" in the second reading and in its entirety. The bill passed unanimously with 115 votes in favor.

It is noteworthy that the bill was presented by Rustam Bakoyan, a member of the "My Step" faction, and proposes to designate a national minorities day in the Republic of Armenia.

The author of the bill had initially suggested that the day for national minorities be celebrated on the last Saturday of September. However, considering that every seven years that date may fall on September 27, which marks the first day of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, Bakoyan proposed to celebrate the first Sunday of October as the national minorities day, and this option was accepted.
