Director of N. Gogol Secondary School No. 35 Accused of Corruption

The Investigative Committee has initiated proceedings against the director of N. Gogol Secondary School No. 35 for allegedly accepting bribes, offering bribes, and mediating in bribery cases. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.

The investigation is being conducted by the investigative division of the Yerevan city department of the Investigative Committee in the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts, aiming to clarify the details surrounding the alleged bribes received by the director of N. Gogol Secondary School No. 35.

According to preliminary information, the director of the school, located in the Erebuni administrative district, demanded a significant sum of money as a bribe from the parent of a student who had returned to Armenia from the Russian Federation and was accepted into the 4th grade with Russian language instruction in 2019. In exchange for not transferring this student to the 5th grade with Armenian language instruction in August 2020, the director requested $300, equivalent to 145,575 AMD, through the parent of a classmate of the student, who later transferred a total of 150,000 AMD to the bribing parent.

Subsequently, on February 16, 2021, the school director invited the bribing parent to their office, stating that only $100 had been received from the requested $300 and demanded an additional $200, equivalent to 104,984 AMD.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Corruption and Economic Crimes Prevention Department of the RA Police under Article 311 (accepting a bribe) Part 2, Article 312 (offering a bribe) Part 1, and Article 313 (mediation in bribery) Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code.

On March 2, 2021, the criminal case was accepted by the Yerevan city department of the Investigative Committee in the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
