Hayk Marutyan Has a New Plan: Why He Is Trying to Get Close to the Opposition

According to the newspaper, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan is currently trying to build friendly relations with representatives of the opposition faction in the Yerevan Council of Elders.

According to our sources, Marutyan has recently been consulting with them on various issues, despite having never done so before. Our well-informed sources report that Marutyan has opposed the authorities, severed all connections with them, and is trying to emerge clean from his position.

Moreover, Marutyan has confided in his circle, stating that he has been unable to fulfill his promises to upgrade public transport, modernize elevators, and so forth due to government irresponsibility. According to Marutyan, when he approached the government to obtain financial support for these initiatives, they promised assistance but did not deliver. He stated that he found himself entangled in these issues.

Now, Marutyan is trying to justify himself at all costs and restore his reputation within the city hall. It is worth noting that the next session of the Yerevan Council of Elders is scheduled for March 16.
