VIDEO. Etna Volcano Awakens
On February 16, the Etna volcano located on the island of Sicily in Italy has awakened. This is reported by news.rbc.ua, noting that due to the volcanic eruptions, Catania International Airport has halted operations.
According to the agency, eruptions from the crater on the southeastern side of the mountain were accompanied by the ejection of volcanic ash and lava flows. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy registered an increase in volcanic activity at 16:10 local time (19:10 Yerevan time).
The epicenter of the underground tremors was located at a depth of 2900-3000 meters, accompanied by infrasound activity.
Etna is one of the most active volcanoes on the planet. Since 1950, it has erupted several dozen times, with the last volcanic activity recorded in mid-January.
