What Nikol Pashinyan Said in a Closed Meeting with MPs

According to information from the newspaper, on Saturday, February 13, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was present in the National Assembly of Armenia. He met with members of the 'My Step' faction of the Parliament. The meeting was held to inquire about the status of the Electoral Code amendments.

Our sources indicate that it was previously decided that, aside from this issue, no other questions would be addressed, as the primary reason for gathering was the amendments to the Electoral Code. According to our sources, the directive to remove the so-called 'stable majority' from the law and make changes to the Constitution was given.

The government has clearly determined that there will also be no majoritarian electoral system; elections should be held only through the proportional electoral system. Well-informed sources also note that the government has decided to send the matter to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, which is why an urgent meeting was organized to ensure that it could be submitted to the commission for examination in a timely manner.

Only after the commission's conclusion will the authorities be able to include the matter on the Parliament's agenda.
