Illegal Constructions Being Demolished from Public Beach to Peninsula at Lake Sevan

Under the directive of Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan, the demolition of illegal constructions in the 'Sevan' National Park has recommenced. The ongoing work involves the demolition of illegal structures along the coastal areas extending from the public beach of Sevan to the peninsula.

A stone semi-constructed building surrounded by a fence has already been demolished, with a settlement agreement in place with its owner.

During the latest meeting with the staff of the 'Sevan' National Park, Minister Petrosyan reaffirmed the Ministry of Environment's determination to clear the shoreline areas of Lake Sevan from illegal buildings and structures.

'It is unacceptable to waste our national resources in this manner. In the short term, our primary goal is to free state-owned territories from illegal stalls, unauthorized constructions, fences, and to establish the rule of law in this vital area. There is the necessary political will to solve this issue. The restoration of the Lake Sevan ecosystem requires new approaches and concepts for the development of the Sevan basin and surrounding communities, and we must mobilize all our efforts to implement this vision,' the minister emphasized.

The demolition work will be ongoing.
