Azerbaijanis Demand the Demolition of Garegin Nzhdeh's Statue Through Russian Peacekeepers
In recent days, discussions regarding the demolition of Garegin Nzhdeh's statue, located in Martuni city, have gained traction on social media and within the community. The statue has been erected on one of the main streets of Martuni, and there has yet to be an official opening ceremony. Reports suggest that Azerbaijanis have demanded its removal through Russian peacekeepers, with the Russians allegedly proposing to comply with the demand to avoid escalating the situation, as reported by Apavaraj.
Apavaraj has reached out to residents of Martuni and responsible individuals within local government bodies. The responses from these officials have been evasive to the media's inquiries. However, it has been revealed that a senior Russian peacekeeper demanded the statue's demolition from the mayor. Mayor Edik Avanesyan refused, saying, 'Tomorrow they might ask for the removal of Monte's statue as well.'
According to the news outlet, discussions related to this issue are ongoing, and for the time being, no responsible body has provided an official comment.
