Citizens Voluntarily Surrender Kalashnikovs and Ammunition to Police Stations
The Police of Armenia reports that thanks to effective explanatory work by the police in Sisian, a 63-year-old man voluntarily surrendered a factory-numbered Kalashnikov rifle on February 11. He stated that he had found the weapon years ago and had kept it in his storage room.
Similarly, due to the efforts of the police from the Yeghegnadzor division, another Kalashnikov rifle was voluntarily surrendered. The man who brought it to the station also handed over the rifle's magazines and several dozen cartridges.
The explanatory work by the police departments of the Ararat regional administration, specifically in Masis and Artashat, was also effective. On February 9, a man called the division and reported that he had left weapons and ammunition under a bridge in the village of Ayntap. At the indicated location, Masis police discovered a Kalashnikov rifle, a magazine, an F-1 grenade, a grenade fuse, and cartridges.
A person who called the Artashat division reported that he had left weapons and ammunition at the beginning of Marx Street. At that location, Artashat police found a revolver, F-1 type grenades with fuses, and more than 180 cartridges of various calibers and weapons.
A young resident of Akunq village presented to the Kotayk division police a factory-numbered Kalashnikov rifle, magazines, a grenade, a grenade fuse, and more than 70 cartridges of various calibers and types. According to him, he brought the weapons and ammunition from Artsakh last November.
The police departments of the Gegharkunik regional administration, particularly the Martuni and Chambarak divisions, also conducted effective explanatory work. A resident of Nerkinq Getashen village voluntarily surrendered an unmarked Kalashnikov rifle along with a magazine loaded with 20 cartridges to the Martuni division, stating he had brought it from Artsakh last November.
Two men from Ttujur village also voluntarily surrendered a handmade pistol, F-1 type grenades, grenade fuses, and over 100 cartridges of different calibers and types to the Chambarak division.
In the Baghramyan division of the Armavir regional administration, a resident of Yervandashat village voluntarily surrendered various types of grenades, fuses, and over 100 cartridges of various calibers and types. Forensic examinations have been ordered.
It should be noted again that individuals who voluntarily surrender illegally held weapons and ammunition are exempt from criminal liability. In this context, the explanatory work by police officers continues.
