Heated Work Expected in the Constitutional Court
Heated work is expected in the Constitutional Court in the coming months. This is due to several discussions and sessions that are of public interest.
First, on February 17, the Constitutional Court will orally consider the application from opposition factions contesting the constitutionality of constitutional amendments made in June of this year. These amendments resulted in the dismissal of Hrayr Tovmasyan from the position of President of the Constitutional Court, and the early termination of powers for judges Alvina Gyulumyan, Grant Nazaryan, and Felix Tokhyan, who were subsequently sent into retirement.
The application regarding the judicial code will be discussed on March 16 by the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan. On April 13, the Constitutional Court will examine the application of one-fifth of the deputies regarding the compliance of the National Assembly's decision to terminate the powers of deputy Naira Zohrabyan as the head of the Permanent Commission on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs with the Constitution. This initiative was presented by the ruling faction in the National Assembly, and the decision was adopted; however, the constitutionality of the issue still needs to be disputed.
