Serzh Sargsyan Responds to Edmond Marukyan

Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Head of the Republican Party of Armenia, has published a response from the party's president, Serzh Sargsyan, to Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia party, on his Facebook page.

“I am compelled to once again address the statements made by the leader of the LHK faction, Edmond Marukyan, regarding their proposal for an objective and thorough investigation into the circumstances of the recent Artsakh war. This is necessary because Marukyan’s statements leave a clear impression of a political game and distortion of reality.

When Mr. Marukyan draws ambiguous parallels between our approaches and those of the ruling party, I am left puzzled: a. No one in Armenia has forgotten the love affair between the LHK and the KP in 2017. b. Memories are still fresh of the LHK being part of the treacherous government in 2018. c. We are still emotional about the melodrama of bringing the LHK’s Minister of Social Affairs in and out of the government. d. We all remember how Mr. Marukyan defended the face of the treacherous scoundrel when we and other representatives of the opposition were seriously and factually expressing concerns regarding the Artsakh negotiations.

Therefore, to speak more candidly, it is not our written rejection that is puzzling but the LHK’s anti-government stance after the war. Unlike the KP, which has become the ‘godfather’ of a treacherous war, we are primarily interested in uncovering all the military-political, backstage, and diplomatic circumstances of the recent war. Unlike the LHK, we understand that doing this fully and effectively is impossible while the government remains in the hands of the treacherous clique.

This is because: 1. Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of people who have substantiated points to make on this issue will be afraid to do so now, while power is in the hands of the treacherous mob. 2. Following the revelations related to the war, the Nicole-hungry regime is initiating criminal cases against those people and conducting a propaganda terror campaign. 3. The case of ‘Patron Davit’ demonstrates that even initiated cases are a farce and a show. 4. The creation of such a commission will be used by the authorities in propaganda to promote the thesis of 'we are not traitors, here is a commission, let them work.'

I am confident that Marukyan understands all of this. In that case, the question arises: why is he fixated at this moment on the theme of creating such a commission?

I suggest two possible answers: 1. Either he is executing another propaganda trick, simultaneously targeting the Republican Party (it is bad that a war that caused thousands of casualties and significant territorial losses is being used for narrow party propaganda purposes). 2. Or he is again acting in coordination with the treacherous scoundrel and is effectively once more serving the interests of this monstrosity.

I leave the conclusions to you. Attached is Serzh Sargsyan's written response to Edmond Marukyan,” Ashotyan wrote.
