Syrian Terrorists in NSS Custody: They Have No Complaints
Syrian mercenary terrorists are currently in custody in Armenia. According to the Investigative Committee, they are not prisoners of war and are not subject to surrender or exchange.
Syrian nationals, Arab descent Youssef Alabet Al Haji and Muhhrab Muhammad Al Shekhri, are charged with several articles of the Armenian Criminal Code, including mercenarism, international terrorism, and serious violations of international humanitarian law during armed conflicts.
The Office of the Prosecutor General informed Armlur.am that the preliminary investigation concerning these two terrorists is in the final phase, but the investigation continues concerning other members of the terrorist groups involved, who are also under search warrants.
The competent authority has made a decision to involve Syrian citizens Ahmad Al-Tayeb (35 years old, residing in the Turkish city of Reyhanlı), Abu Steff Al-Hindavi (35 years old), and Abu Diab Halabi (30 years old) as defendants under Article 389, Article 390, Paragraph 3, Clause 1, and Article 395, Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Code; they have been placed under arrest and search warrants have been issued against them.
Youssef Alabet Al Haji and Muhhrab Muhammad Al Shekhri have been provided with state defence by Edward Aghajanyan. He stated that he is limited in speaking about their positions and charges, asserting that an investigation is ongoing and that he would respond to questions only after its completion. He confirmed that they are being held in NSS custody and that he will ensure their proper defence.
Active investigative actions have been carried out in this case, including interrogations, the latest of which occurred a week ago. Regarding the charges, the defender is also hesitant to disclose anything, mentioning that their position may change at any time: “I do not find it appropriate to disclose their position.”
The defender also stated that, at this stage, the investigative body has not recorded any significant violations against the defence side. He did not provide answers concerning the restriction of phone calls or contact with relatives outside.
The attorney inquired twice about the health status of his clients, receiving a response that everything is normal with them, noting they had gunshot wounds and received appropriate treatment. They have not lodged complaints concerning the conditions of their detention, treatment, or other issues.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian mercenaries participated in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh and were apprehended by the Artsakh Defense Army.
