Human Rights Defender Emphasizes Urgency of Returning Armenian Prisoners Held in Azerbaijan During Meeting with Russian Ambassador
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, met with Sergey Kopirkin, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, on February 1. This information was reported by the Office of the Human Rights Defender.
Several issues were discussed, including the urgency of returning Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. The Defender highlighted the effective cooperation with the Russian Embassy in Armenia and expressed gratitude for the established joint efforts in exchanging information regarding the protection of the rights of our compatriots in Russia.
Arman Tatoyan praised the mutually trust-based relations with the Federal Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Tatyana Moskalkova, detailing the outcomes of their collaborative work during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a joint reception organized in Russia with the participation of the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia and the President of the Union of Armenians in Russia. This initiative aimed at protecting the rights of our compatriots working in Russia.
The example of joint work has become an international best practice that should be highlighted on international platforms.
The Russian Ambassador emphasized the importance of effective cooperation with the Armenian Human Rights Defender and stressed the necessity of continuing it. The parties agreed to continue their collaboration and information exchange aimed at the protection of human rights.
