64 Illegal Nets Removed from Lake Sevan; Enhanced Surveillance Established

After the end of the fishing season for industrial fishing in Lake Sevan, 64 illegal nets have been removed from the lake. This was reported by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia.

Due to the spawning period of the trout species, the fishing season in Lake Sevan officially ended on December 1, 2020. Entry of any recreational vehicles into Lake Sevan has been prohibited, and enhanced surveillance has been established throughout Armenia.

Taking into account the letter from the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia dated November 30, 2020, and the five-party action plan related to the spawning period of the trout species, measures have been implemented to ensure the natural reproduction of fish. In December 2020 and January 2021, a joint inspection and preventive measures were carried out by the employees of the "Sevan" National Park SNCO, Lake Sevan Police, Dilijan checkpoints, the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, and the police, resulting in the removal of a total of 64 illegal nets from the coastal and water mirror areas of Lake Sevan.

The nets have been confiscated and destroyed in accordance with the law. Surveillance measures are ongoing.
