My Step Faction Works to Achieve Arman Tatoyan's Resignation: 'Jaghout'
The newspaper 'Jaghout' reports: The ruling 'My Step' faction has initiated steps against the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, following the dismissal of the chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Public Affairs, Naira Zohrabyan.
Members of the ruling faction often make remarks or speak about Tatoyan's bias, attempting to accuse him of acting against Armenia's interests. The point is that after the well-known trilateral statement on November 9, Arman Tatoyan has been the only state official who frequently speaks about the government's mistakes, which perhaps does not sit well with them.
The ruling faction is working with the Ministry of Justice to reach a point where he voluntarily resigns and steps down. What does Tatoyan think about this? The Ombudsman’s office stated: 'We do not comment on such discussions.'
It should be noted that Tatoyan was elected as the Ombudsman in February 2016 for a 6-year term as stipulated by the Constitution, meaning there is still one year left until the end of the Ombudsman's term.
According to Article 193 of the Constitution, the powers of the Human Rights Defender cease upon the expiration of his term of office, loss of Armenian citizenship, obtaining the citizenship of another state, entry into legal force of a guilty verdict against him, being declared incapacitated, missing, or deceased by a court decision, and in cases of resignation.
