Government Approves Taxpayer Day to Be Celebrated on April 19
The head of the State Revenue Committee, Edward Hovhannisyan, presented to the government the drafts of the laws "On Amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia" and "On Amending the Law on Holidays and Commemorative Days of the Republic of Armenia." The government approved that Taxpayer Day will be celebrated on April 19.
The justification states that the obligation to calculate and pay taxes is an action enforced by the state on taxpayers. Therefore, it is crucial for taxpayers to continuously benefit from state support in fulfilling their tax obligations.
Based on this, the Armenian government has adopted a strategy to ensure a new level of partnership and cooperation between taxpayers and tax authorities, create favorable conditions for compliant taxpayers, implement tax administration approaches that align with their behavior, and strengthen partnerships with businesses. Among other measures, the government will also implement initiatives to promote voluntary tax compliance.
To highlight the role of taxpayers in ensuring budget revenues in public finance management and to encourage taxpayers to fulfill their tax obligations voluntarily, timely, and accurately, it is proposed to establish a Taxpayer Day.
Taking into account the fact that on April 19, 1992, the law "On Taxes in the Republic of Armenia" was adopted for the first time, which essentially formed the tax system and its principles in Armenia, as well as the relationships between tax authorities and taxpayers, it is proposed to set Taxpayer Day on April 19.
