Urgent Assistance for Conflict-Affected Individuals in Armenia
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched an urgent assistance program to help vulnerable groups affected by the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh in Armenia. The program will be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy of Armenia and the State Food Safety Service, aiming to quickly respond to the interventions carried out by the government and to fill critical gaps in these efforts.
Support will be provided through agricultural-related contributions, such as animal feed, equipment, and materials for constructing temporary barns for displaced agricultural animals, among other needs.
FAO representative in Armenia, Raimund Jehle, stated, “The program is crucial as it provides an opportunity for rapid response, but more significant support is necessary for the upcoming agricultural season.”
It is notable that, following the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, it is estimated that between 12,000 and 55,000 cows and between 60,000 and 90,000 small livestock have been brought to Armenia by displaced families.
