VIDEO: Three Washbasins and 2140 Heating Radiators Stolen from a Yerevan School on New Year's Eve

The incident occurred last month in the Ajapnyak administrative district. On New Year's Eve, a surprise was planned for the students—an unpleasant one that benefited neither the school nor the pupils.

The perpetrators broke the lock of School No. 22 using technical means and took advantage of the fact that renovation work was ongoing at the school. According to preliminary data, three washbasins and 2,140 heating radiators were stolen, causing approximately 13.5 million drams in material damage.

On January 1, the operational management center reported the incident to the Mkhachkalan Police Department. Law enforcement officers who went to the school examined the crime scene to determine where and under what circumstances the theft took place. The inspection revealed that some of the radiators had not yet been installed, suggesting that the perpetrator was likely aware of the renovation work being conducted at the school and the location of the stored radiators, indicating the possibility of an insider’s involvement—this became a key theory for the investigation.

Criminal investigators combined evidence and information gathered at the scene to establish that the theft was committed by a worker involved in the construction project at the school, in collaboration with an employee of the boiler room, one from Gyumri and the other from the village of Kasakh.

On January 9, law enforcement apprehended the boiler room employee and brought him to the Mkhachkalan Police Department. Following further measures and cooperation with officers from the Kumayri Police Department, the other suspect was also apprehended on January 20 in Yerevan, who transported the heating radiators in his Opel vehicle.

It is noteworthy that a personal search of the 35-year-old resident of the village of Kasakh revealed a greenish substance. According to him, this plant material was a drug for personal use. The apprehended individuals have been arrested, and measures are underway to recover the stolen goods. The investigation is ongoing.
