Man Fires Gun While Threatening His 3-Year-Old Son
On the morning of January 27, operational teams of the police visited a private house on Ghapantsyan Street in Yerevan to locate a wanted man. Upon seeing the police, he fired shots from a gun and then held his 3-year-old son close, threatening to harm him if he was apprehended.
The police chief of Armenia, Vahe Ghazaryan, first deputy police chief Aram Hovhannisyan, head of the main criminal police department Vardan Vardanyan, chief of the police rapid response unit Sevan Kocharyan, along with other unit leaders and officers, arrived at the scene.
Ghazaryan negotiated with the armed man for approximately two hours, after which the man surrendered his weapon and released the child. The suspect, wanted on charges defined by three articles of the Armenian Criminal Code, was taken into custody by the police. No injuries were reported. An investigation is ongoing.
