Will They Demand $50 Billion? Azerbaijan Files Extensive Complaint Against Armenia in ECHR

Azerbaijan has filed an extensive complaint against Armenia in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), demanding compensation for a series of violations attributed to Armenia. Specifically, the Azerbaijani side claims that its thousands of citizens have had their rights to life, property, freedom of movement, faith, and many others violated as a result of '30 years of occupation by Armenia.'

The application also includes Azerbaijan's demands directed at Armenia concerning the full duration of hostilities that began on September 27. Additionally, Azerbaijan has not overlooked the border incidents from July 2020, including its demands related to this matter in the current application.

The complaint emphasizes that Armenia has conducted a significant number of 'illegal landmining operations, leveled Azerbaijani cities and villages, and unlawfully deployed armed units.' Through this application submitted to the ECHR, Azerbaijan is demanding that Armenia take all necessary measures to rectify the violations committed.

It is worth noting that earlier reports in the media indicated that Azerbaijan is preparing to demand $50 billion in compensation from Armenia. There have also been statements from Azerbaijan regarding Zangezur as part of the compensation.
