Over Ten Residential Burglaries in Kotayk Region; Charges Filed Against Two Individuals
The Kotayk Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation aimed at clarifying all circumstances related to over ten residential burglaries that occurred in the Kotayk region. This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
Between November 18, 2020, and December 14, 2020, at around 00:05, an individual (or individuals) suspected of committing the crime illegally entered the premises of a private house in the village of Jrvaz by applying a tool to open the metal door of the fence and the entrance door of a semi-built structure, with the intent to secretly take someone else's property. They stole various household items, causing the owner estimated property damage of about 1,000,000 AMD.
A criminal case has been initiated at the Kotayk Division of the Police under Article 177, Part 2, Points 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which has been sent to the Abovyan Investigation Division of the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department for further investigation.
As a result of immediate investigative and other procedural actions, as well as operational and intelligence measures, several circumstances of the case have been clarified, including the identity of the individuals who allegedly committed the crime, who are residents of Yerevan, born in 1996 and 1995. They have been arrested on suspicion of theft and questioned. During questioning, in addition to their involvement in the aforementioned crime, they confessed to committing a series of secret thefts in groups from another 10 residences in the Kotayk region from August to December 2020, providing significant information regarding the methods of operation, the addresses of the houses, and the dates of the thefts.
During the investigation, a search of a garage they controlled yielded part of the stolen property, which was discovered and seized. Based on sufficient evidence, the young men have been charged under Article 177, Part 2, Points 2 and 3, Article 34-177, Part 3, Point 1.1, and the characteristics of Article 177, Part 3, Point 1.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and a travel restriction measure has been chosen as a preventive measure.
The investigation continues. Necessary investigative and other procedural actions are being taken to locate the stolen property and other citizens who were affected by their actions.
