US Demands Immediate Release of Navalny, Pompeo
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called for the immediate release of opposition figure Alexei Navalny, who was detained upon arriving in Russia. This was reported by the State Department's press service.
“We urge the Russian authorities to create equal conditions for all parties and candidates wishing to participate in the electoral process. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Navalny,” Pompeo stated.
As previously reported, Navalny returned to Moscow from Berlin last night after receiving treatment in Germany. He arrived at Sheremetyevo Airport on Pobeda Airlines flight DP 936 from Brandenburg Airport (Berlin).
