Russian Channel 1 to Receive Nationwide Coverage in Armenia, Channel 2 for Yerevan

The licensing of slots for national and capital broadcasting in the public multiplex has resumed during a session of the National Commission on Television and Radio. The winners of the competition will be selected through a rating-based voting process.

Previously, six slots were announced for national coverage and nine slots for capital coverage. However, in December, an intergovernmental agreement was signed with the Russian Federation, according to which the Russian Channel 1 will receive a license for nationwide coverage, while Russian Channel 2 will get coverage in Yerevan. The licenses will be without a fee. This was announced by the Chairman of the Commission, Tigran Hakobyan.

“This means that the number of national slots will decrease by one, while the capital slots will drop from nine to seven,” said the chairman of the commission.
