Marukyan Calls on the UN Security Council to Declare Artsakh a No-Fly Zone
Today, in response to the requests from the Russian Federation, France, and the USA, the UN Security Council will hold a closed discussion regarding the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced by the leader of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party, Edmon Marukyan.
He specifically noted: “Azerbaijan's armed forces, in cooperation with Turkey’s armed forces and in collusion with mercenaries and terrorist groups, have been targeting the civilian population and civil infrastructure of Artsakh (the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh) for more than 20 days using airpower and strike drones. They are employing weapons prohibited by international law, as well as murdering prisoners of war (including through beheading), committing other war crimes, and conducting ethnic cleansing of the population of Artsakh (the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh).
As a result of these actions, there is a real threat that a new genocide will be perpetrated against a nation that has already experienced the horrors of genocide.
In light of the aforementioned circumstances, we call on the UN Security Council to declare and impose a no-fly zone (no-fly zone | бесполетная зона | zone d'exclusion aérienne) across all territories of Artsakh (the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh) by all means necessary. This would provide an opportunity to prevent further war crimes and exclude the consequences of a humanitarian disaster.
At the same time, we call on the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group — the Russian Federation, France, and the USA — to support the adoption, implementation, and enforcement of this proposal.
We appeal to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenian representative to the UN to present the proposal for declaring a no-fly zone in the territory of Artsakh at the UN Security Council meeting.
