Mandatory Mask-Wearing Turns Masks into Health Risks, Epidemiologist Warns
During the summer months, it was quite predictable that a decrease in coronavirus infections would be observed, as people spend more time outdoors, indoor spaces are ventilated more frequently, and the virus primarily spreads in enclosed environments. This was noted by epidemiologist Ruben Hovhannisyan in an interview with Tert.am, discussing the recent decline in coronavirus cases.
According to the doctor, the way anti-epidemic restrictions have been implemented has not significantly impacted the reduction in the spread of the virus, as months ago, when citizens' movement was restricted, a noticeable surge in cases was observed.
“Recently, the topic of wearing masks has come up frequently. I can say that wearing a mask in outdoor areas does not play any role from an epidemiological perspective. One could even argue that this mandatory requirement makes masks unhygienic and is implemented only to avoid fines, with all possible negative health consequences,” emphasized Ruben Hovhannisyan.
