Zarukyan Closes the Topic of Becoming Prime Minister: What the Opposition Discussed
Leader of the "Homeland" party, Arthur Vanetsyan, has suggested to other forces to determine who will be their candidate for Prime Minister. Zarukyan has declared that he has no aspirations to become prime minister, and furthermore, Vanetsyan cannot lay claim to being the Prime Minister candidate of the trio. The ARF also does not see such a prospect.
The "Zhoghovurd" newspaper attempted to verify this information first with the "Homeland" party. Council member Khachik Galstyan stated, "As far as I know, such discussions took place a month and a half, or two months ago, when the trio's activities had just begun. No one raised the question of who should be the Prime Minister. Yes, the trio has stated that our struggle is not for the position of Prime Minister, and it is not an end in itself. Our fight is against the authorities in general, which we are implementing; the question of the Prime Minister is not on the agenda."
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the leader of BHK, Gagik Zarukyan, Iveta Tonoyan, noted, "I have no information about any meeting in such a format, especially with such content. Information and announcements regarding all official meetings in the trio’s format are provided to the media. I advise all my colleagues in the media to rely solely on official announcements and not on various and questionable information spread in the news field from dubious sources."
It is noteworthy that Gagik Zarukyan has decided to participate in the upcoming rally in October alone, without allies. Moreover, Zarukyan has not met with either Vanetsyan or the leaders of the ARF for more than two months.
The cooperation of the opposition trio continues only in the form of working groups, whose members include Iveta Tonoyan and Arthur Grigoryan from BHK, Artsvik Minasyan and Lilit Galstyan from ARF, and Ara Sahakyan and Arsen Babayan from "Homeland." Where this will lead is hard to say.
