Key Figure from March 1 Case Receives New Position

According to the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, one of the key figures in the March 1 case, Norayr Yolchyan, has received a new position at the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. But who is Yolchyan?

His name was mentioned during the testimony of Gurgen (Gagik) Melkonyan, the Deputy Minister of Defense, who was interrogated as a witness by the Special Investigative Service regarding the March 1 case.

It is worth recalling that the "Zhoghovurd" daily had also published the protocol of Melkonyan's questioning, where he spoke about the distribution of property and mentioned: “At that time, the head of the material service, Colonel Norik Yolchyan, who may have information about who specifically were the responsible persons distributing that uniform, were the officers of the material service's uniform maintenance department, who, as I recall, should have been 4-5 people. Vardan Poghosyan is currently deceased.”

Interestingly, following the Velvet Revolution that took place in 2018, President Armen Sarkissian issued a decree on August 15 to dismiss Norayr Yolchyan from the position of Head of the Armed Forces' Material Service. According to information available at that time, his dismissal was linked to potential abuses.
