Former MP from the Republican Party of Armenia Mehr Sedrakyan Charged
Former Republican Party of Armenia MP Mehr Sedrakyan has been charged. A signature as a preventive measure not to leave has been selected for him. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
According to the data obtained during the investigation, Mehr Sedrakyan, who held the position of the head of the Yerevan Erebuni community from 1999 to 2008, abused his official powers by deliberately failing to carry out his official duties, and did not apply administrative liability measures for the unauthorized construction carried out by his son and brother on a total area of 2782.55 square meters in the community-owned territory of Vardavar Park, with the intent to later include those in their property fund by abusing his official position.
According to the Investigative Committee, on May 27, 2004, Mehr Sedrakyan applied to the relevant territorial subdivision of the State Committee of Real Estate Cadastre of Armenia to legalize the aforementioned illegally constructed buildings and the occupied land plot, with the purpose of registering the ownership rights first for the community and then for his son and brother.
“Based on the above, the floor plan developed by the territorial subdivision of the State Committee of Property Management was submitted to the Yerevan municipality, after which, by decision No. 1319-A of the Yerevan Mayor dated July 19, 2004, the ownership rights of the Erebuni district administration over the unauthorized buildings constructed in the area of Vardavar Park and Vardavar Lake were recognized,” the statement continued.
Subsequently, on August 5, 2004, based on the application of the Erebuni district administration, the aforementioned real estate was divided into five parts, and on August 6, 2004, the rights of the Erebuni district administration over the divided properties were state-registered.
Using his official position contrary to the interests of service, with the assistance of members of the community council, M. Sedrakyan alienated a total of 12035.5 square meters of land from the community-owned territory of Vardavar Park to his son and brother, resulting in the aforementioned land plot being removed from the community's property fund, which inadvertently led to serious consequences.
With a sufficient combination of evidence obtained, Mehr Sedrakyan has been charged under Part 2 of Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of official authority). A signature not to leave has been selected as a preventive measure for him. The pre-trial investigation continues.
