Amulsar Mine Initiative Group Sends Open Letter to Prime Minister

The Amulsar Mine Initiative Group has addressed an open letter to the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Chief of Police, and members of the National Assembly.

"The atmosphere of impunity surrounding Amulsar continues to threaten the security of us and our families. In recent days, we have witnessed yet again how a group of individuals is engaging in hooliganism, throwing stones at the guards in the Amulsar area and at residents of the community, while hurling insults at them. It is particularly concerning that these illegal actions are being supported by certain members of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The Amulsar initiative calls on parliamentarians on behalf of the residents of the surrounding communities to visit our areas to understand the severe social situation created by the illegal activities they promote and the real problems facing our depopulated communities, provided their goal is to stand with the people, rather than pursue other agendas.

Once again, we appeal to law enforcement agencies and the Government of Armenia. We demand the restoration of legality in Amulsar and the ensuring of local residents’ constitutional right to work safely. Protesters do not represent the community. We expect that the safety of the community is a state issue, and it is unacceptable to ignore the lawlessness and the threats against community residents, emigration, and the severe social situation," the letter states.
