There Has Been a Leak of Information in the NSS for Two Years: Seda Safaryan

Representatives of the victims' heirs in the March 1 case held a press conference today. Lawyer Tigran Yeghoyan stated that their most important task at this moment is to raise the issues. "The Prosecutor's Office did not demonstrate sufficient will regarding the March 1 case, and many individuals were given the opportunity to evade responsibility. Over the last 20 years, the formation and implementation of a totalitarian regime has seemingly been restarted after the events of 2018, and alongside other issues, processes were initiated to address the problems of a corrupt state apparatus, which over the years has acted against democracy and human rights in favor of group interests, including the judicial system. It quickly became apparent that the government was unable to implement a meaningful and consistent legal policy, which manifested in the absence of a deep, systematic, and consistent reform program for the legal system and its implementation.

Lawyer Seda Safaryan also added that there are serious operational data, the implementation of which faces challenges. "These relate to the murders, the involvement of the oligarchic system's security in those murders, and no operational work is being done regarding this. An attempt has been made at the state level to address this, but the mere change of individuals does not equate to a change in personnel; the structures that should be involved do not wish to engage with it, for known reasons. I am aware that there has been a leak of information in the National Security Service for two years in the process of implementing operational data, which has had a very negative impact on the work of the Special Investigative Service. An effort has been made at the state level to rectify this, but the change of individuals does not mean changes in personnel; the structures that should deal with this do not want to engage, and we know the reasons why. If today Vanetsyan wishes to engage in political intrigue, everything is already obvious. Can you imagine this person’s two years of cooperation with the Special Investigative Service, the mechanism of that cooperation, and the absence of desire, which has resulted in the leak of information?"

The father of March 1 victim Gor Kleoyan, Sargis Kleoyan, also added that they are very upset, are halting their participation in this meaningless event, and will see what their next steps will be. Heirs of the March 1 case Armen Faroyan and Edik Harutyunyan also stated that they will not participate in the sessions.
