Unity March: Anti-Government Protests in Belarus Commence
A traditional large-scale march organized by the opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko is taking place in the center of Minsk, held on Sundays.
Police have set up barriers around the square in central Minsk where the opposition's unauthorized march is occurring. Notably, this square houses the Palace of the Republic and the House of Trade Unions, with the Presidential Administration situated not far away.
Traffic is moving freely along Independence Avenue, which passes through October Square, and all metro stations are operational. Belarusian presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has issued a new video message calling on Belarusians to participate in the Unity March.
It is worth noting that protests in Belarus have not ceased since the presidential elections held on August 9, where the incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner, spurring daily demonstrations by the opposition and their supporters protesting the election results.
