The Armenian Text Read by Gurgen Alaverdyan Was Not Written by a Soldier, Expert Says
Military expert and Turkologist Karen Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Official Baku once again grossly violates international norms and established regulations regarding prisoners and prisoners of war. The Azerbaijani authorities have released a video in which an Armenian soldier explains the reasons for his capture.
It is clear that the Armenian text read by Gurgen Alaverdyan was not written by a soldier, and does not reflect his position. I do not wish to delve into details, so as not to inadvertently endanger his safety.
Filming and disseminating a detained soldier, especially after charges have been brought against him, also constitutes a gross violation of rights. In the video, Gurgen Alaverdyan is clearly subjected to psychological pressure, as he is seated next to the state flag of Azerbaijan while being a soldier of the Armenian army. With numerous instances of rights violations, this video once again highlights the absence of human rights protection in Azerbaijan.”
