6-Year-Old Child Dies After Being Beaten in Tavush's Khashtarak Community

The spokesperson for the "St. Astvatsamayr" Medical Center, Gevorg Derzdyan, announced on his Facebook page: "I regret to inform that the 6-year-old child, who was beaten in the Khashtarak community of Tavush, has died without regaining consciousness. The boy was transferred to Yerevan with life-threatening injuries after being brutally beaten at home. He suffered combined injuries, including brain and kidney injuries, and severe bruising on his limbs. From the first day, he was unconscious, connected to a ventilator."

It is reminded that a 57-year-old man was arrested in the Tavush Khashtarak community on suspicion of beating his 6-year-old and 4-year-old grandchildren. The 6-year-old child sustained combined injuries including brain and kidney damage, while the 4-year-old had a skull hematoma. The other five grandchildren of this man were also transferred to Yerevan on August 20, diagnosed initially with acute exogenous poisoning at the "Muratsan" medical center.

The Tavush regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee has carried out investigatory and procedural actions regarding the case of the 57-year-old resident of Khashtarak causing serious bodily harm to his minor grandchildren, and inflicting severe physical pain or severe mental suffering. It has been established that his 28-year-old daughter also systematically inflicted numerous blows on her five minor children, as well as on the two minor sons of her brother with her hands, feet, bat, and other objects, causing them severe physical pain and mental suffering. A new criminal case has been initiated under Article 119, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code (causing severe physical pain or severe mental suffering).

A decision has been made to consolidate the two criminal cases and continue the preliminary investigation in a single procedure. The seven minor children involved in the criminal case have been recognized as victims. A forensic medical examination has been appointed, with the execution assigned to specialists of the "Forensic Medical Scientific-Practical Center" SNCO of the RA Ministry of Justice. Several individuals have been interrogated. A directive has been issued to the relevant division of the RA Police to carry out operational and investigative measures.
