Russia and Azerbaijan to Implement Energy Bridge Project with Iran Despite US Sanctions: Lavrov
Moscow and Baku intend to implement the Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran energy bridge project, despite the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US against Iran. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
“The Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran energy bridge is a project that is quite timely and in-demand. It would all be easier, more efficient, and beneficial for the establishment of such a corridor for multilateral cooperation if it were not for the illegal unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States against Iran. However, in this situation, I am confident that we will implement everything that will bring enormous benefits to this part of Eurasia,” said the diplomat.
He expressed support for the cooperation programs between the economic and transport authorities of Russia and Azerbaijan, including the construction of the North-South transport corridor with Iran's participation and the East-West corridor with Turkey's involvement.
Bayramov, for his part, confirmed that the integration of the energy systems of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran is currently under development.
