Members of the Constitutional Reform Commission to Meet Again; Discussion Topic Revealed

The newspaper "Joghvorud" reports that on Saturday, August 29, the Constitutional Reform Professional Commission will hold its next meeting.

According to "Joghvorud", the agenda will focus on the legislative framework for establishing age and other criteria for judges and members of the Supreme Judicial Council.

However, our information suggests that there is still no clarity on what model will be discussed and ultimately what age criteria the commission will settle on.

It should be noted that the members of the Professional Commission have decided to meet every Saturday, not only to discuss issues but also to make decisions that will be included in the concept of constitutional amendments, as was the case last week.

Currently, the commission has only made three decisions: maintaining the system of governance, abolishing stable majorities, and creating a Supreme Court. However, it is worth mentioning that this commission has been operating since February and has opted for a more active approach to decision-making to meet deadlines.

The preliminary concept of constitutional amendments is expected to be published at the end of October, after which further discussions will take place, with the final concept ready by the end of the year. The draft is likely to be subject to a referendum in the summer of 2021.
