Hraparak: School Funding Will Be Cut, Scandals in the Education System Could Be Destructive for Current Authorities

Hraparak newspaper writes that the ongoing scandals in the education system may prove disastrous for current authorities. Dissatisfaction is brewing not only over educational standards, textbooks, university admission tests, and the guidelines for the school year starting on September 15 but also regarding a new funding system proposal recently published.

When the education sector switched to student-based funding in 1999-2000, it was done with the active participation of the World Bank and international financial institutions, involving enormous loan resources that are now a burden on Armenian citizens in the form of external debt.

Now, an attempt is being covertly made to transition to classroom-based funding, which differs significantly from the previous model and will substantially reduce funding for schools, particularly for smaller institutions. This means that the state has decided to cut financial allocation for education, or in simpler terms, to save costs at the expense of schools.
